DubaiWelcome to Travel Guide 2 Dubai, the site about travel, tourism and vacations in Dubai. Dubai is one of the seven emirates which make up the United Arab Emirates, although the name "Dubai" is also used to refer to the capital city of the Dubai emirate. Sometimes "Dubai city" is used (but this is far from universal) to indicate a reference to the city specifically, rather than to the emirate in general. As of 2006, the population of the entire Dubai emirate was estimated at 1,422,000, of whom less than 20% are UAE nationals. The rest of the population was expatriates from many different countries, but especially India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Although Dubai's economy was historically built on the oil industry, today oil and natural account for less than 3% of the emirate's revenues. Most of the emirate's revenue comes from Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA) which surrounds the Jebel Ali port, which is the largest man-made harbor in the world, and the biggest port in the Middle East. Additionally tourism is increasingly important, and since 2000, the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) has been established as secondary market for trading in securities and bonds. As many people know, the last few years in Dubai has seen a significant construction boom as well as an appreciation in real estate prices. The Burj al-Arab (a luxury hotel built on an artificial island), and the Mall of the Emirates (the world's largest shopping mall, containing the Middle East's first indoor ski slope - "Sky Dubai"), have already been completed. Many other construction projects are ongoing, including building some of the world's tallest skyscrapers, as well as artificial archipelagos - "The World" and the "Palm Islands".
